I bought and read this book based in part on the word “science” in the title. Accordingly, I was expecting a well-researched and documented book about effective learning methods for both knowledge and skill. While there are some helpful tips in the book and there are references to work done on the subject of learning, the tips could have been covered in 20 pages and the references are informal.The organization of the book is logical, and the takeaways at the end of each chapter are helpful. The final chapter which summarizes all that is covered is of benefit as well. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough depth in any of the chapters and both knowledge and skill acquisition are covered without any distinction. Surely there are differences and better ways to learn to play piano as opposed to how to learn calculus.Like many books, this one has an accolade on the back cover, though who provided it isn’t listed. Was it the author? In part, it says “…accelerate your learning to save time, beat competition, and get from Point A to Point B at the speed of light.” Quite ironic, since in the final chapter 8 pages are devoted to explaining why you should be realistic.I assume the book is self-published in that there is no copyright or publisher listed anywhere in the book. That’s not necessarily bad, but it does provide some evidence that it wasn’t thoroughly reviewed before going to press.Bottom line, there better choices, (books and on-line classes) if you’d like to improve your learning techniques.
Only about 10% is worth reading - too much filler.
